Golf meets wine – at the highest level: On September 18, 2026, an extraordinary golf, wine, and gourmet experience will take place at Golfclub Gut Murstätten, combining sport, Southern Styrian wine culture, fine dining, and personal networking in a particularly charming way.

Under the title “Weinreife statt Platzreife” (Wine Proficiency instead of Course Proficiency), an event will be held for the first time that is much more than a classic golf tournament. It is a passion project of Niki Skene from Golfclub Gut Murstätten – especially because his daughter Victoria Skene brought this unique idea to life.

And these are exactly the kind of projects we love to support at THE LOGE: because they connect people, make enjoyment tangible, and show that golf can be much more than just a round on the course.

Southern Styria stands like almost no other region for wine, hospitality, and scenic beauty. When these qualities are combined with a tournament at Golfclub Gut Murstätten, a format with true prestige is created.

At “Weinreife statt Platzreife”, sporting elegance, selected Styrian wineries, and high-quality cuisine come together. Participants experience a day where it’s not just the handicap that counts, but above all the moment.

During the round, selected winemakers present their best wines directly on the golf course. This is accompanied by regional specialties, personal encounters, and short trivia questions about wine, grape varieties, origin, sensory characteristics, and Southern Styria.

Wine Proficiency instead of Course Proficiency: when enjoyment becomes the game

The name of the event captures the idea perfectly. Normally, golfers talk about “Platzreife” (course proficiency). On this special day, however, it is all about Weinreife (wine proficiency).

Participants receive a personal wine pass and collect not only birdies, pars, and beautiful memories during their round, but also knowledge and moments of indulgence. At the wine stations, tastings, questions, and exciting insights into the world of Styrian wine await.

Those who answer enough questions correctly will receive the official Wine Proficiency Certificate during the evening event.

In this way, a golf tournament is transformed into a playful gourmet format that elegantly combines sport, knowledge, entertainment, and culinary delights.

Golf Wine 2026: participants become the jury

A special highlight of the day is the selection of the Golf Wine 2026.

Guests taste the selected wines from the participating winemakers and cast their votes. This makes the participants themselves part of the jury, helping to decide which wine will ultimately be honored as the Golf Wine 2026.

The festive award ceremony takes place in the evening and forms one of the emotional highlights of this event. For the participating wineries, this award is a special stage – and for the guests, an experience to remember.

After the round of golf, the enjoyment continues. The evening is rounded off with an exclusive dinner at Golfclub Gut Murstätten.

The culinary highlight is provided by Markus Rath, one of Austria’s most renowned chefs, awarded with 4 toques. Together with his team, he creates a menu perfectly tailored to the wines presented.

The evening event includes, among other things:

• the presentation of the Wine Proficiency Certificates,
• the awarding of the Golf Wine 2026,
• the honoring of the successful participants,
• as well as a delightful conclusion in a special atmosphere.

This ensures the day doesn’t just end, but is celebrated in style.
